FAQ
Hi, Paul Steele here. I am often asked so many frequently asked questions about my travel, walks, pets and equipment. Of course I have many articles on particular subjects but here are answers to some of the most common questions people have. About me or the site.
If you have any questions you think we should add to this then please let me know via the contact form or on social media.
How did you start travel blogging?
I left the army in 2005 and put on lots of weight sat in office work. I rekindled a love of walking and hiking to help and combined with a love of photography and the advent of social media. BaldHiker was born out of this in 2010.
What camera do you use?
Currently as my main camera I use a Leica DLux7 and also use my phone, a Google Pixel 6 Pro as well as a GoPro when the need arises. For overhead photos I use a drone, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
Where is your favourite country?
This all depends on for what. For hiking I love Iceland and New Zealand along with Britain of course. For adventures I like the USA, it is so vast and full of a variety of adventure and people. For culture I am always amazed when I visit Azerbaijan and Italy.
Why Is The Blog Called BaldHiker?
The answer is simple. When I was looking for a name for the blog and someone on Twitter called me the bald hiker. I am bald, I hike, so thought why not.
Where have you not travelled that you would like to?
Top answer for me would be Antarctica. I have always wanted to go there and is still a life goal.
Are You A Full Time Blogger?
Yes and no. Blogging is one of the major things I do but I am also a social media consultant, copywriter, web designer, walking guide and more behind the scenes. I help brands grow online away from the BaldHiker brand a lot.
Do You have any tips to start blogging?
My top tip would be never find a hole in the market, you will get more enjoyment and last longer if you write about something you love and enjoy. Let the content flow consistently and enjoy sharing your words and pictures.
Do your dogs travel everywhere with you?
I certainly try to but foreign trips can be difficult of course. However a huge majority of my walks and travels do involve the dogs. They love it.
