keto cheese crisps

This is one of the quickest and easiest keto snacks that I regularly have. These home made crisps (or chips if you are in the US) are so simple they only have one ingredient, Parmesan Cheese.

And they are so easy to make it is Grate, Bake, Go! And even quicker if you buy the already grated stuff. I would say here be careful though as those pesky food manufacturers do tend to put carbs and sugars into pre grated cheese, plus you pay more for less. So always read the labels if you go down that route.

There is no stress in quickly grating a small block of full fat parmesan that you know what you are getting. A Keto friendly, low carb cheesy treat.

ready to eat

This snack is adaptable for making in bulk and storing plus I find it such a lightweight option when out hiking in the outdoors.

I will also list later on here some ingredients you can add to this to give a different flavour.

Ingredients

  • 150 g Parmesan Cheese

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 150C, 300F or Gas Mark 2
  • Grate the cheese
  • Use a baking tray with parchment paper so the cheese does not stick to the tray when cooking.
  • On the paper lined tray, create piles of the shredded cheese. With 150g of cheese you should get enough for around 12 crisps. Leave a gap of around an inch between each pile.baking the cheese
  • Once the oven is ready you simply put the tray on the top shelf and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. You will see them bubbling away during the time.
  • What you want is that golden brown look, but not burnt at the edges. The longer you cook them the crispier they get. The less you bake them the chewier they get.
  • Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool.

All ready to start snacking.

Ingredient additions for variation

There are so many ways to adapt this into many keto friendly flavours. Then use this recipe as a base.

  • Garlic powder
  • Basil
  • Rosemary

Or you can add a little chilli powder for a cheese crisp with a kick.

Storage

If I make a whole load of them I tend to eat over a couple of days anyway so can keep airtight at room temperature.

To keep the crispiness and over longer periods then it is best to refrigerate.

And of course, these are great even if not on a Keto diet.
